History

In December of 1980, a group of quilters met to reorganize their existing guild. The first official meeting was held in the basement of the Stanley Bank on the first Tuesday of January in 1981. Twenty-one charter members met, chose the name “Blue Valley Quilters Guild,” and elected Barbara Edstedt as their first president. Locations have changed over the years as the guild has grown, but the spirit of the original membership carries on today.

Philanthropy

At the Blue Valley Quilters Guild, we actively seek out ways to make an impact in our community. Here are some ways we help others: Community Outreach — Through Community Outreach, the guild supports local agencies through sewing and products. Groups may change on a quarterly basis with research and input from guild members. Annual Sew Day — The Blue Valley Quilters Guild reserves the February Guild meeting for a chance for guild members to come together for the sewing of items for the Community Outreach Committee. These sewn items are then distributed to the current agency the guild is supporting.

The Guild Today

The Blue Valley Quilters Guild is an organization dedicated to preserving and teaching the fine art of quilting. We welcome all newcomers as well as experienced quilters to be a part of this outstanding and active guild.

The guild has fundraisers like auctions, quilt shows., boutiques and other suggested activities to raise money. The money is used to support the goal to further the art of quilting through workshops and speakers at the monthly meetings, as well as other programs voted on by the membership.  It also has supported the technology needs of the guild with Hybrid meetings to allow for online workshops and speakers. Our members can participate without being in person, but can enjoy a zoom meeting.
